Our Story

A Family Roastery

From Tavernelle to the World

Since 1928, the Belardi Coffee Company has been selecting the world's finest coffees to create blends of the highest quality. Like yesterday, when Oscar Belardi founded his torrefazione among the green hills of Umbria in his laboratory in Tavernelle di Panicale, today his son Benvenuto prepares the coffee following a ritual passed down for decades — with the same care and dedication.

The unmistakable aroma of a cup of coffee belies a long and meticulous process that begins with the acquisition of the fruit: the green bean, ripened on the plant. Belardi Torrefazione takes great care in selecting the finest varieties the global market has to offer, guaranteeing the excellence of its traditional blend.

A first selection is made by taking a sample of green bean and roasting it with a hand-operated tostino to assess quality by tasting. Once the best varieties are chosen, the transformation begins. Any impure beans are eliminated, and the coffee is ready for roasting — a process carried out strictly over wood, to preserve that unmistakable aroma adored the world over.

We roast strictly over wood. This commitment to traditional technique is what gives our coffee its unmistakable aroma.

Careful Selection

Every batch begins with a careful tasting of green bean samples, hand-roasted in our traditional tostino. Only the finest varieties make it through to production.

A Living Heritage

The laboratory and sales outlet remain in the very building where Oscar installed his first roasting machine in 1928, in Tavernelle di Panicale.
